Product review: Coulax V4.1 bluetooth stereo headset

So... might be time to dust this thing off again (HOW many times has this been done?)

So anyway... was contacted about doing a review through the Android Forums. Good piece of gear to look into!

Coulax V4.1 Bluetooth Headset

I recently received one of these headsets for review, and have to admit that I'm impressed. For some background, I use my headset when riding, doing maintainence at a local hotel, working out. And I use one side for calls when driving. My previous setup was an LG HBS-700

Comparing the two, battery life is a horse apiece: I tend to charge my electronics every night out of habit, so I didn't notice too much of a difference there. Did manage to run the V4.1 for a couple days without charging, and never had a problem. Call quality was good throughout. On par for working out, as well, and working at the hotel.

Where the V4.1 pulled ahead was at the hotel and on the bike. Mowing lawns and riding have always been problematic for me, as it gets VERY hard to hear the LG when on the mower or at speed on the bike. The V4.1 had no such troubles: even on my Sportster at 70mph (running straight pipes and no windshield), I could still hear my tunes perfectly clearly, whereas the LG became nothing more than a poor set of ear plugs.

Also give a slight advantage to the V4.1 on design: the buds are connected by a wire, with just a small control box near the right side. The advantage here was in working out: the band connector of the LG would tend to slide around while at the gym, and the V4.1 simply didn't have the extra weight being thrown around (and pulling the buds out of my ears). This eliminated a LOT of frustration!

Controls, I give a slight (think “hair”) edge to the LG: since you have a much larger piece for controls, you have separate volume and track controls. A very minor difference, as getting used to the V4.1's controls wasn't difficult at all.

Priced currently at $30 on Amazon (I paid around $80 for the LG), the V4.1 is a deal that's hard to beat this Christmas season!

Wait, what? Words fail me

OK... caught this over at APS

Basically, the premise of an essay given an award at Hebrew University is that Israeli soldiers are showing racism by not raping Palestinian women. Let me quote here:

Nitzan alleges that the "lack of military rape merely strengthens the ethnic boundaries and clarifies the inter-ethnic differences–just as organized military rape would have done."

Wait a second: not raping is racist. Raping is racist. Ye gawds... there really is no "win" here

Read the whole thing. Have Excedrine handy

GAH! LEARN ENGLISH!

No, this is NOT a rant about immigrants. As per usual, I have H2 on in the background. Show on is talking about "prophecy", and the Oracle of Delphi and the Sibylline Oracle get mentioned. The theory gets mentioned concerning how oracles worked (the whole "hallucinogenic gas" thing)... "And the cave of the Sibyl was also underground, just like the caves at Delphi" Seriously? WOW, I never would have thought a cave would be UNDERGROUND. Imagine THAT! Times like this, I lose my faith in the world

Multiple good things (for once)

So... it's been a good week aboard the Privateer. In multiple ways...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Obviously, got my computer working again. When Windoze got lobotomized, I decided to try Ubuntu. So far, I have to say I like it...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the return of warmer weather, has come the return of two-wheeled transportation. This has been a mixed thing of late: haven't been able to replace the infamous Hondapotomus yet. To make matters worse, she would NOT start, not for anything. However, replace the battery, and she's again on the road (which makes Spoon happy: means I'm not stealing HER scoot anymore).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Something to file under "News of the Unexpected": a couple years back, I taught Nancy (my mom-in-law) to shoot a handgun. This last few weeks, she decided she had to "prove she was serious about it": she went out and took (and passed) the NRA Basic Handgun Course. Came as a supprise to me: she's a good shot, but I had no clue that she was taking the class. And she's already considering the idea of concealed carry (if we ever get it in this Gawdsforesaken state)...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now maybe, just MAYBE, we're off the rocks and can start sailing forward again!

One of THOSE days... :(

Ever have one of those days? You know: where you just do NOT want to get out of bed?

I'm having one now. Unfortunately, I never even GOT to bed...

Tonight is the board of directors meeting for BACA Wisconsin. I have NO choice but to attend, since I run the show. Unfortunately, I get to deal with personal issues, idiots, and now frigging SNOW. If there IS some form of divinity, They're getting a hell of a lot of fun out of me right now!

Begining to feel like all I have to say is depressing. Sheesh!

Frelling weather!

So... Spoon and I are sitting here at Manitowoc Coffee, surfing the net and enjoying the ambience, when the sirens start goin' off: seems we have a tornado warning. Of course, I'm sitting next to the big picture window, making the staff nervous as they herd the kids down to the basement...

I don't think there's been a tornado hit Manitowoc in recorded history. I can see the sky quite clearly: it's a nice dark blue-grey, not any sort of pea-soup green. And ever'body's acting like the end of the world is neigh.

Sheesh... some people. Get a lil' rain, wind, and the possibility of sudden violent death, and they start to panic!

Sorry 'bout the light posting...

It's Child abuse Awareness Month, so I'm up to my eyes in stuff to do. Thankfully, only one more weekend... :D

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Job goes well: I've even managed to sell a couple contracts without having the first issue in hand (that comes next week at the latest). So I have hopes that this will work out well...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Joined a new group: US Forces Veteren Riders. Not just bikers, it's a group dedicated to helping vets locally. Seems like something good to do in my off time...

News of the sick & perverted

Ran across this...

I have to ask... how can someone look at a DOG and become sexually aroused? Worse yet, it's not some fruffy dog, but a rottweiler.

I mean, seriously: isn't that right up there with molesting grizzlies, tigers, or wolverines?

For the interested...

Some of you may have found the BACA Nation internet radio show, linked off the National website.

Well... they've taken a step forward: now they're on actual airwaves. Go to the BACA Nation website for more info (or you can click to stream it).

It's my understanding that, right now, they're primarily covering the western US...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd like to appologize for the light posting: just too much stuff dragging me down.

I got the awesome job, but we're on hold. I'll be selling ad space in a new biker mag in the WI/Northern IL area (and doing a lil' writing). But there's been several holdups. Meaning I can't actually START work... :(

BACA stuff has taken up a LOT of time. We've patched a new member (y'all feel free to say "hi" to Scary in the comments: I'll forward), worked through a bunch of problems, and identified a bunch more...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Speaking of BACA stuff: we're going to have some houseguests here at the HMS Privateer.

the perp of one of the girls we've been working with is getting his day in court: her testimony is taped, but she has to be available for cross examination. We'll be there: not just my chapter, but folks from all over. Our girl is going to KNOW there are folks behind her!

I'll let everyone know how that turns out.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Bout all for now. SHOULD have AD's present in the mail in the next day or so: hopefully he'll send pics, and y'all can see the "price" of not posting regularly... >:)

Via Rattail Bastard

One of the newer blogs linked by Jay G, Rattail Bastard, just mentioned the correlation between youths "settling their differnces" the old fashioned way (ie: beating each-other bloody), and the politeness shown back then, to today's "civilized society", and the lack of civility. Which got me to thinkin'...

This is NEVER a good thing.

But there WAS a spark in me lil' 'ead, and it illuminated a problem I've noticed in society today: people aren't responsible for their actions.

I'll wait for y'all to recover from the shock that caused.

Now, I'm not exactly talking about the nanny state. Rather, I'm talking about basic civility.

There was a time in this country (and not all THAT long ago), where you'ld shoot someone for being disrespectful of your lady. Now, you're supposed to just stand there while the same stranger gropes her to his heart's content. A time (agina, not that long ago) where, upon mouthing off to an adult, a kid would get the snot smacked out of them... and more of the same, when and if their parents found out. Now, there'd be lawsuits flying...

The point here? I've noticed, the more "civilized" a society, the less civil. Let's be honest: calling hat we have today "civilized" is alot like naming the town slut "Chastity", and the town drunk "Temperance"...

And no... I really don't have a solution. But, like I said... I got to thinkin', and that's NEVER a good thing!

The Steampunk computer stuff is nice...

But this is just insane!

IWANTIWANTIWANT!!!!!

One of THOSE days

You know the days: where EVERYTHING jumps up at once?

Got to rush dad to the ER last night. Today, met with a therapist that wants to work with our BACA chapter. And now, I get to run to somewhere in the middle of frelling Illinois for a case...

I'll be gone all weekend... y'all keep thinking of me, please. And the young lady we're goin' to help!
