Oh. My. Gawds.

So I'm cruising around, and catch this over at Atomic Nerds: 8 Year Old Girl Arrested for "Battery".

What. The. Hell?

I can kinda see some of the Zero Tolerance BS, and I could see the cops being called for a similar situation with a teen. But with a frelling 8 year old?

What kind of teachers can't handle an 8 year old in "fight or flight" without calling the police? I mean, all they had to do was get in the way, there was no need to go "hands on".

And the cops? Booking an 8 year old? Huh?

I suppose it coulda been worse, she coulda been tased.

Folks I have NO higher education. But even I know that, if an attempt to physically restrain a child results in their wigging out, the best thing you can do is back off. You'd think educators (you know: college degree an' all) would have been given that clue.

I'm glad I don't have kids: there would be some "educators" either looking at lawsuits, or hospital stays...

Holy crap, I've got a problem with that from the get-go. Why on Earth were they arguing with her over wearing her "cow costume"? It's hard to believe that in this age we've apparently got a whole school full of people without a clue of how to deal with autistic children.

I think it's home school time for those parents, and I hope they go that route.

Poor child.

That was horrific. They must have been aware of her condition so WTF did they not try and understand what they were dealing with. They are a total disgrace.
Just discovered your blog many thanks l enjoy the read even if l did get high BP over the idiots at the school!

Could be worse, I spent the first three years in school constantly being bullied, and every time I fought back, I was the bad guy, from the teachers point of view. I did hit one of my teachers when I was 8 as well, I remember uppercutting her under her chin.

In total, I spent 3 of my childhood years 10-12 in various psychiatric institutions and 2 of my teenage years, 16-17 in troubled youth homes(where everyone agreed I was the only sane one there, and I've never been the rowdy type either)... and didn't get my aspie diagnosis until after I got out of those, when I was 20.

At least that girl got diagnosed on time.
