You keep using that word...

... I do not think it means what you think it means

The money quote here, regarding this murder/suicide:

"Question is to whether or not she was safe, she was, in fact, we were protecting her. We also made sure with the protective order in addition to, provided protection to him," Hite said. "I think due diligence was done by detectives in both cases, making sure there was protection around him and her. There is some technology we used to make sure that happened."

Remember this the next time someone says something to you about how you should just cower behind a piece of paper

Easter Eggs=Evil?

Ok... someone posted to a friend's FB page the cover of a book, entitled "Are Your Children Playing with Lucifer's Testicles?"

Of course, my mind blanked for a bit on that: seriously? So I Googled the phrase, and found this.

Yes Virginia, there ARE psychotic nutjobs in the world. And not all of them are Muslim (just the most organized & violent). Couple of quotes:

is a Bible based book for Christian parents who by lack of faith can't afford to send their children to a decent Christian school.
Because, of course, the ONLY reason you wouldn't send your child to a "decent Christian school" is due to lack of faith. Which I suddenly find... disturbing

"In the old days, deluded pagans would gather round and hump like bunnies on Easter Sunday because they thought it would make their tomatoes grow faster"
Wow... just, wow...

"Pagan kids didn't have anything to do on Easter Sunday because their mommies and daddies were stuck in a false temple all day
Wait... it's only a "real" temple if it's dedicated to Christ?

Go take a look. Make sure to read the reviews: they're just as "worthwhile"

... and blood will run in the streets!

Well, we're 27 days into the era of legally armed Wisconsinites, and coming to the end of the opening weekend of Idiot Season (Christmas shopping).

Just did a quick Google search, looking for any cases of shootings here in Cheddarland during the Black Friday stupidity. Now, I've heard of all kinds of asshattery from Friday, but oddly enough, nobody pulled their heater and popped some caps to secure the X-Box for Lil' Timmy.

We were promised blood in the streets, damnit. Where's our blood in the streets?

EPIC Douchebaggery

OK... I caught this over at Armed Polite Society. Talk about the epitomy of "douchebag". Basic story:

Guy posts on a car forum that "his girl" is complaining about him buying mods for "his" car. Forgets to log off said forum, and she finds the post. Hilarity ensues... >:)

Some of the highlight posts to check:

#44 (p2): Where "Rachel" posts an open letter to "Billy", using his account

#118 (p3): "Billy" complains about "being made a laughing stock" (never mind he made the original post)

#125 (p4): One of the Mods (apparantly fairly mild-mannered) calls the guy out as a tool

#138 (p4): One of the commentators posts one of the best examples of self-inflicted insults ever seen

#332 (p9): "Billy" digs his hole a little deeper

I think that's enough for now: not going to go through all 114 pages of stuff.

But I figured I'd do my little bit to spread this one far and wide... >:)

When did the Nobel Peace Prize become a kewpi doll?

So... our Teleprompter in Chief has won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Wait... what?

A man who had only been in office for eleven days when the nomination deadline hit has won the prize? What the hell?

The biggest laugh out of the whole deal? Even HuffPo is unhappy about this turn of events:

Whatever one might feel about Obama, he has not earned this singular award.

And that's from an Obama supporter!

Yep... the inmates really ARE running the asylum...

college?

Peter posted an interesting list of courses offered (for credit) at some universities. Here's the quick rundown:

* Arguing With Judge Judy: Popular 'Logic' On TV Judge Shows
* Underwater Basket Weaving
* The Joy Of Garbage
* Zombies In Popular Media
* Cyberporn And Society
* Far Side Entomology
* Myth And Science Fiction: Star Wars, The Matrix, And Lord Of The Rings

He goes on to ask readers if they'd be willing to pay for their children attending such classes. I'm gonna take a slightly different track...

Was discussing the whole college thing with Spoon. Seems a college degree doesn't mean as much, anymore. Hell, I dated a girl that got a degree in Spanish & Latin American Studies... then got a job teaching english in Japan!

We've all heard of folks that get a degree in (insert whatever major), only to find out that for it to mean anything in the job market, they need further education. Not to mention the number of kids in college that seem to dual major in "Binge Drinking" and "Promiscuis Sex".

I'm gonna advance a theory here: I think college has become overly pushed on society. And there are a couple reasons behind this.

First off, we've been given a sense that everybody should be an executive (or similarly physically non-taxing position). What we've failed to take into account is that there are only so many such positions out there. Nobody wants to be a ditch-digger, but SOMEBODY has to do it. Yet, thinking back to high school, the huge push was to go on to "higher education*" to make something of yourself.

Second issue here: many college kids today seem to treat the (however many) years of college as an extended adolescence, with mommy & daddy footing the bill for the search for more excess.

Could it be that, courses such as those listed, MIGHT just point to a needed revamp of our whole education system? That, just maybe, the whole "well rounded education" might not be as good a thing (or as necessary for everyone) as once thought?

Just sayin'...

Oh. Oh, my.

Caught this via Skippy: "Wannabe Vampires Are Totally Pissing Off Real Vampires".

I don't even know where to begin.

I'll admit, I've seen some serious freaks in my life. Hell, I've dated a couple of 'em (hey, they were hot). But this whole vampire thing?

Can somebody please bitch-slap Anne Rice now, for what she's inflicted on us?

Yes, "psychic vampires" can be considered a real thing. Everybody knows someone who just seems to sap the energy out of people. But explaining it as "vampirism"?

Worse, being basically proud of the fact?

Ok kids... time to come back to planet Earth.
