Sorry about the posting: work's been interesting.
Some may notice a change to the posting permissions aboard here: I'm no longer allowing anonymous comments. There's a reason.
Take a look at the first comment about Squeaker's baby. Looks VERY much as if this douche followed me back from Holly's, and a post she made about "childfree people". And felt the need to take a shot here too.
Now, I'm all for freedom of speech. And I have no trouble with someone wanting to take a shot at me: folks have tried everything but actual gunfire, and I'm still standing. But asshats making snide comments behind the anonymity of their computer screen shouts out "coward". And I'll not abide cowardice here. ESPECIALLY when it's aimed (however ineffectually) against a child.
So... new Privateer policy: if you're going to say something, you're gonna have to own it. If you can't, or don't want your name attached to whatever you're spewing, then piss up a rope.

Second Chances
OK... OK... I'm Posting already..... Its only been a few minutes......er.... days.........ok too damn long since I posted last. As to date my posts have not been anything that is really about me and who I am, no substance of how deranged is Slytly Deranged. This will be no different....
A lot of changes around here since my last post, I now have custody of my 16 year old son. I am overjoyed with this. I could write about it all day long and still never get out my feelings about him or how happy I am to have him. I could......but I won't. Two reasons....1.) If I did, this post would be different from my previous posts and I have already mentioned that this post would not be much different.....2.) I would rather you see his words about how he feels about being here.
I pulled the following from his myspace blog. These are his words, copied and pasted, no editing on my part:
A new school, a new home, sounds like an everyday thing in my life at this point huh? Well, this time it's different. I now have a place where I'm staying. I have a house and a school I don't have to leave anymore. It feels good to finally have some stability in my life. I get to have friends here that I won't leave two months from now, or just jump up and move without even saying good bye to them. I finally have a place where I can be me, but also I have a place I can care about. I used to not really care what anyone thought of me because I knew sooner or later, I'd be gone, far away from that place and probably never coming back. Granted, what I did to get here was nothing short of bad, I pretty much killed my mother with heartbreak. But when I think about how much better I'll have it here, I know I had to do it.... Here.... I don't have to worry about college tuition or a job or anything like that. Here, I can have everything I want because I now hold the tools I need to get them. When I was there, I was so un-happy all the time because all I would worry about was my future, here, I have another chance to re-write my future to a better ending.... My second chance in life.... Maybe one day you will all get one yourself.

Hope y'all will pardon me while I geek out...
Spoon just informed me that they're doing a movie version of the Watchmen. Since this is just about one of THE best graphic novels ever made, I HAD to go check the trailer.
Go here, trailer is on the top. Oh My Frelling Gawds: I think I'm going to need to change my kilt!
If the actual movie is even half as good as the trailer, I'll be in throes of ecstacy!

A Just and Sane World
Law Dog hits one out of the park with this post.
I know most of my readers have probably already read it. But it needs to be spread far and wide.
To add insult to injury, the perp shares my fucking last name. Never thought someone could make me ashamed of being a Hilton.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot news...
Via Jay, we get this stunning lil' piece...
Lemmie make sure I understand how this all works out.
Corey Saunders, convicted of charges of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and attempted rape and abuse of a child under 16. He pled guilty and received four years and one day in prison, with a 12 year probation on top of that.
He served his time, and was released. The release was against the advice of three different psychologists.
Well, Corey ended up finding a six-year-old boy in the public library of New Bedfor MA. The boy's mother was working at a computer less than 10 feet away, thinking her child was safe in the children's reading room.
She was wrong.
Corey had his way with the child, finishing the act before suspicions were aroused (although a librarian took note of him). When the child told what had happened, Corey was arrested quickly.
The result of this is the proposed legislation, to enact "child safety zones"?
Yeah... THAT'S gonna work. Just like "Gun Free" zones, and "Drug Free" zones
We wonder why we have such a severe problem with crime in this country. Sear the facts of this case into your mind, and see if you can figure out why this would be the case.

It's been covered in a few places...
... But I'm going to go ahead and post it here too.
Woman, attacked by a stalker, who has the means to fight back. Even though she survives, this is still kinda chilling to listen to...

Little tidbit about Mom...
My mother was a 5 foot nuthin' Italian woman, who had no trouble smacking down whomever needed it. But she DID have a soft spot: those is the service.
When AD posted this, it reminded me of the way Mom was: she'd think nothing of having an entire platoon over for dinner, if an intact platoon was nearby. She was the type of woman who would've invited soldiers or sailors who were stuck on base for the holidays to dinner, had any bases been nearby...
So let's see what we can do here, folks. Go to YIKES!, and read about operation: Love from Home. Send a card or three. Let a servicemember know that the people he's sworn to protect appreciate his sacrifice...

Forgot another blog...
So... I've been purusing a local blog, Boots and Sabers. Today, they popped this lil' gem, from MSNBC. An exerpt:
This is something that should be in EVERY State, bookmarked on library computers, and parents encouraged to check it.
Just in time for the start of school, the state of Florida has launched an eye-opening Web site that enables parents to see the disciplinary records of their kids’ teachers. The site, called http://www.myfloridateacher.com, makes public a troubling secret in education: that the people who teach our kids and discipline them sometimes have a few demerits on their own permanent records.
The site was designed to be parent-friendly. Users can put a teacher’s last name--or a particular school district--into a search engine and within a few seconds get a list of the teachers who have been found guilty of misconduct--even crimes--and a description of the punishment meted out to them. Some of the infractions seem minor; one teacher in Miami-Dade was convicted of submitting a cribbed essay as part of a licensing exam. (He was handed two years’ probation, a $250 fine, and required to retake the test.) Others suggest more serious problems: one teacher in Hernando County was convicted of disorderly conduct, carrying a concealed weapon and intoxication. The punishment? A letter of reprimand and a $250 fine.
This is something that should be in EVERY State, bookmarked on library computers, and parents encouraged to check it.

We're not as trustworthy...
So... had an interesting lil' conversation at trap today, while waiting for the rest of my squad to show.
Got on the subject of concealed carry with one of the other shooters, and got the brilliant statement of "Yeah... a few years ago, I was all for it. Now, no way!". The exchange went something like this:
Me: "So... why not?"
Fellow Shooter: "Honestly... I now know too many crazy people! Wouldn't trust any of 'em with a gun!"
M: "Ok... so, because YOU know too many people, *I* shouldn't be allowed to defend myself or my family?"
FS: "Hey... don't do stupid stuff, you won't have a problem!"
M: "What about the other 48 states that have CCW? Are they just more trustworthy?"
FS: "No... we're just smarter! And most folks don't need to have a gun to defend themselves."
M: "Huh... *point at Spoon's backpatch* see that patch? That means we help abused kids. Are you saying my wife shouldn't be able to defend herself against an abuser we've crossed?"
FS: "Like I said: don't do stupid stuff!"
M: *BANGHEAD*
This is the kind of attitude we get here in the land of Cheese towords armed self defense. And y'all wonder why nobody outside of law enforcement (and those who ignore the law) can carry here?

Perspectives: yall NEED to read this!
Matt G, Ambulance Driver, and Babs RN have written a collaborative piece titled Perspectives. You get to follow a hypothetical case from the start (Matt as the Responding Officer), through the ride in the 'bolance (That'll be AD), and into the hospital (where Babs takes over).
Read it... share it. And maybe, just maybe, folks will start to THINK before doing something stupid.
PS: After you're done, read Babs' "For the Record". There's a lil' bit in there that REALLY resounds...
"But that doesn't mean we don't feel. We just have to do it .....later. After all is said and done.
Because if we ever stop feeling, it's time to get out.
And just so you know, after dealing with the real "Bobby" from my part of the story, I needed to cry."
Y'all will pardon me for just a moment: I know EXACTLY how Babs feels here. The children I deal with, it often rends the heart... and we can NOT show that in front of the kids. When you hear what Uncle Buck did to little Johnny, it makes you want to hurt Buck... which, if Johnny picks up on, can easily translate to "I made the bikers mad". So we stand there, stoicly, listening to the stories our kids tell us... and fume. We do our jobs, sometimes standing watch over a house in the wee hours, so that child will feel safe... and we ache inside. And, quite often, when we get home... we cry like lil' babies in need of a bottle...
Babs... I feel for ya on this. Give your kids an extra squeeze, an remember you can only do so much...

There's a reason I don't read the news more often...
... it's 'cause I would spend too much time pissed off.
Caught this via Tole, and decided to do my part to spread it.
I'm not a "major player" in the blogosphere: I'd say I'm a fairly minor point for people to come and laugh (usually at the silly biker in the kilt). So... I'm gonna ask all the rock-stars of the blog world (the one or two who read me) to maybe think of spreading this themselves.
At the bottom of Ms Malkin's piece is a link to send well-wishes to this poor airman, and I think that flooding him with "Get Well Soon!" notes would do a lil' bit to ease his pain.

Important FYI:
Just caught this from the Bitch Girls, and thought I'd add it myself...
Personally, I wouldn't knowingly do business with anyone who insisted that I remains helpless against the goblins of the world. And I think most of the two of you feel the same...

Send a letter to the Marines
Via Barking Moonbat Early Warning Systems:
Seems we have an addy to email some of Unca Sam's Misguided Children over in their sandbox. Being a former sailor, this seems like a VERY good idea: words of encouragement and appreciation always make the folks overseas feel better.
In case you don't want to check the above link, the addy is RCT-6lettersfromh@gcemnf-wiraq.usmc.mil
Let's flood 'em with goodwill!
